Natural Resources Year 12 CMC


You are going to do a presentation about natural resources and their exploitation. IN GROUPS OF NO MORE THAN THREE.
You will have two lessons in the computer room. Wednesday 14th March and Wednesday 22nd March. You will then finish any bits for homework and present on Monday 26th March (12XYZ)or Tuesday 27th March (12VX).
The presentation must be 5 minutes long. ANY SHORTER OR LONGER AND YOU WILL BE PENALISED. IF YOUR PRESENTATION IS NOT READY YOU WILL ALSO BE PENALISED.

There are four topics to choose from WATER, AIR, ENERGY OR RECYLING.

The minimum requirements for each topic are outlined below.
WATER
1. Display a Mindmap / Explosion Chart which lists the many ways that water is found as a Natural Resource. eg Ocean, Lake .....
2. List as many ways as possible that water is used in daily life. Rank these in order of priority (i.e. which are most important for survival)
3. Make a chart to show how much water is used in each activity per day or per week.
4. Draw a diagram to explain the Water Cycle.
5. How do our communities deal with wastewater?
6. Suggest some solutions to these problems.

LAND
1. Display a Mindmap / Explosion Chart which lists the many ways that land is considered a Natural Resource eg soil, forests....
2. Why is the land considered an important Natural Resource? What are some of the problems confronting land use today?
3. Give a simple explanantion of salinity -include a diagram in your your response.
4. Why are trees so vital to the environment? What part do rainforests play in the equilibrium of the earth?
5. Why is tree logging considered to be a problem for the environment?


ENERGY
1. What natural resources are used to produce energy?
2. What effect on the environment does each of these natural resources produce?
3. List these natural resources in order, starting with those that harm the environment least to those that harm the environment most.
4. Which of these natural resources are renewable or non-renewable? Make a table to show this.
5. How can we be more energy efficient in our homes? List at least ten ways.


RECYCLING
1. What natural resources are affected by recycling or the lack of it?
2. What human-made things can be most easily recycled?
• Why should we recycle these?
• What things are not easily recyclable?
3. What sort of waste do people generate in their homes?
4. How does recycling help the environment?
5. How does reducing waste help the environment?
6. Explain different kinds of waste eg. Domestic, Green, Inert,Commercial/Industrial
